On August 24th, SingCham Shanghai transformed a ballroom into a vibrant homage to Singapore with its National Day dinner, themed "Jazz as One, Singapore." The room came alive with color, laughter, and the tantalizing aroma of local delicacies as 800 guests gathered, eager to celebrate Singapore’s rich heritage.
2024年8月24日，为庆祝新加坡的58岁生日，中国新加坡商会（上海）以“全民一心，团结一致”为主题，举行了盛大的国庆庆典晚宴。这次晚宴迎来约800名嘉宾共襄盛举。现场欢声笑语不断，高潮迭起，宾客欢聚一堂，共同欢庆这个激动人心的时刻。
The evening began with a warm welcome from our esteemed guests of honor, including Mr. Peter Tan, Singapore’s Ambassador to China, and Mr. Chua Teng Hoe, Consul-General in Shanghai. Their presence set a tone of unity and pride, emphasizing that our strength lies in collaboration and community spirit.
晚宴在尊贵的嘉宾——新加坡驻中华人⺠共和国大使陈海泉先生以及新加坡驻沪总领事蔡簦合先生的热情欢迎下拉开序幕。他们的出席奠定了团结与自豪的基调，强调了我们的力量源于合作与团结精神。

Festive decorations and stands, echoing traditional push carts, created an inviting atmosphere. Guests engaged with vendors, learning about various offerings, while the clever placement of free kopi at the end of the hallway added a delightful touch to the experience.

Outside the ballroom, the atmosphere buzzed with energy as our guests, dressed to impress, flashed their biggest smiles at the photobooth, brimming with excitement for the night ahead.

Each rotating table featured two glasses of wine, ready for toasting, while every seat held a goodie bag filled with uniquely Singaporean items—from bee hoon and local coffee to handy toiletries. As guests streamed into the ballroom, the venue slowly came to life, filled with laughter and conversation as everyone settled in for an unforgettable evening.

In his address, Mr. Lucas Loh (Chairman of SingCham Shanghai) spoke passionately about the strong bond between Singapore and Shanghai, emphasizing how it has blossomed through open attitudes toward cooperation. He highlighted the "Kampong spirit," known for its focus on community, which drives SingCham to organize events that emphasize connection as much as business. These "bridges of diversity" create lifelong exchanges, fostering collaboration between Singaporean and Chinese partners.
中国新加坡商会·上海会长罗臻毓先生在致辞中深情地讲述了新加坡与上海之间深厚的友谊，并强调这种开放的合作态度推动了国家的蓬勃发展。他提到了“甘榜精神”，即注重社区的精神，这种精神驱动着新加坡商会组织强调联系与商业并重的活动。这些“多元之桥”促进了新加坡与中国合作伙伴之间的终身交流与合作。
Mr. Peter Tan echoed this sentiment, stressing the importance of collective strength and inclusive thinking. He praised SingCham’s role in facilitating business between Singaporean and Chinese counterparts, encouraging continued collaboration. In a spirit of "food diplomacy," he concluded his segment with a rendition of the famous National Day song "Home," uniquely adapted with a local twist.

The evening's entertainment was nothing short of spectacular. Dancers dazzled the audience with vibrant moves set to funky saxophone music.

Meanwhile, the legendary Jeremy Monteiro, the "King of Swing," took the stage. His energetic piano performance filled the room with joy, blending jazz classics with local hits like "One People, One Nation, One Singapore." The special performance of the evening was delivered by Mr. Peter Tan (Singapore Ambassador) and Mr. William Chang (Vice Chairman & Secretary-General of SingCham Shanghai) accompanied by Mr Jeremy Monteiro and his band as they delighted everyone with two jazz songs: What a wonderful world and 月亮代表我的心 which created a closeness among the audience as they sang along.
被誉为新加坡爵士教父的蒙特罗先生，也用他充满活力的爵士钢琴演奏为现场带来了欢乐，将爵士经典与本地热门歌曲如《一个民族，一个国家，一个新加坡》巧妙融合。当晚陈海泉先生与中国新加坡商会-上海副会长兼秘书长曾广仁先生携手登台，在蒙特罗先生乐队的伴奏下，用他们充满活力的歌声为观众带来了特别演出，演绎了两首爵士歌曲《What a wonderful world》和《月亮代表我的心》。现场爆发出阵阵欢呼声。宾客们纷纷跟唱，这一刻把所有人的心都紧紧相连。
Heartwarming dishes were served in style, with waiters gracefully navigating the room under twinkling lights. Guests enjoyed luxurious twists on Singaporean favorites, including beautifully presented chili crab, a colorful platter of appetizers, and some fragrant bak kut teh. It was a delightful feast that perfectly matched the festive spirit of the evening.
Friends from around the world also celebrated Singapore's birthday and immersed themselves in the unique Singaporean culture.

The lucky draw segment was a thrilling highlight, with prizes that had everyone buzzing. Guests had the chance to win fabulous rewards, including 2D1N staycations, luxurious spa treatments, and even dental procedures—all spread across three electrifying rounds to keep the excitement building. The grand prize, a staggering 88,888 KrisFlyer miles, was generously sponsored by Singapore Airlines (SIA).

To conclude the night, we had a lively sing-along session. Guests of honor and volunteers led the crowd from the stage, inviting everyone to join in. The audience hummed along, some waving their flags and others their lighted wristbands. The unity was palpable; those on stage felt a sense of accomplishment, singing as comrades in arms after tireless days of preparation. The camaraderie developed from working closely together shone through, making the evening a spontaneous and vibrant celebration filled with joy and togetherness.

Even as the event came to a close, SingCham Shanghai continues to believe in promoting new avenues of cooperation, strengthening and deepening our partnerships, and seeking the welfare of our members to ensure that we remain at the forefront of development.
