SSA Shanghai x SingCham Shanghai Mentorship Day: Imparting Wisdom and Know-hows
On 22nd September 2023, SSA Shanghai and Singcham Shanghai collaborated to organise a Mentorship Day for all Singaporean students across the Yangtze-Delta region. The event was held at DBS Tower, Shanghai. By providing students with valuable insights into the professional landscape in China, the orientation aimed to foster connections with other Singaporean industry professionals and peers in the region.
The event was kickstarted with an opening speech by Davina Tan, Consul (Administration & Consular), Singapore Consulate-General in Shanghai. Following which, Stephanie Chew, the representative of SingCham Shanghai, as well as Ruby Lim, the President of SSA Shanghai, introduced their respective organisations.
We also had the pleasure of inviting several distinguished Guest Speakers to share their experiences and insights on Shanghai. After each speech, every speaker was presented with a token of appreciation.
Sean Lim, Deputy Treasurer of SingCham Beijing and Director of WMI Renewables, shared his 18 years of living experience in China. He also provided a concise overview of the real estate industry and offered valuable advice to students regarding their studies and life in China.
Shuting Yow, Director of the CEO’s Office at UOB China, shared her journey and motivations behind pursuing a career in China. She discussed her transition from the public sector to her current position in the finance sector.
Samuel Tan, Vice President and Chief Information Officer of Robert Bosch, shared his experiences as a Singaporean working in the Tech and AI industry in China. He emphasized the advantages of Singaporeans' bilingualism and biculturalism, particularly in the Chinese workforce.
Ronnie Ng, Co-founder of SimplyBrand, shared his entrepreneurial journey from Singapore to China and his experiences working with Big Data. He provided valuable insights into the challenges and rewards of entrepreneurship.
Yong Qin Goh, Associate Director of DP Architects, discussed his architectural design and project management experiences during his 13 years in Shanghai. He also shared his perspectives on working in China.

Sean Lim, Vice President of Business Development at Neon Global, captivated the audience with his exciting projects, such as the Avatar Experience in Gardens by the Bay, and Jurassic World in Universal Studios Beijing. He also shared his views on family, particularly from the perspective of relocating with his whole family from Singapore to China.

Johnny Yu, Senior Director of ChongBang Group, drew from his 30 years of experience in the real estate industry, providing valuable insights into managing projects in North China, Hong Kong, Singapore, and more. He also conducted a brief Q&A session, where students had the opportunity to ask him questions.
崇邦集团高级总监Johnny Yu先生凭借自己在房地产行业工作30年的经验，对于在华北、香港、新加坡等地区的项目管理提供了宝贵的见解。 他还进行了简短的问答环节。
Lastly, Sophia Huang, a youth volunteer of SingCham Beijing and Shanghai, and a Strategy and Asset Management Executive at Hopson Commercial Group, concluded the Guest Speakers' introductions with enthusiasm. She shared her post-graduation journey since leaving Fudan University and provided valuable insights into being a Singaporean fresh graduate in the Chinese workforce.
After the speeches, we then proceeded with an official photo session to commemorate the event.
With that, it was dinner time! The student participants eagerly took their seats next to the guest speakers, who were assigned to individual tables. Courtesy of Lalasha, everyone was able to choose from an array of delicious local Singaporean dishes, ranging from Nasi Lemak, to Bubur Chacha.
In the relaxed and comfortable lounge setting, attendees were able to freely interact and exchange ideas at their respective tables. It was a highly productive session that provided the participants with many valuable connections and lasting memories for all participants.
