SingCham launches Shanghai Chapter
Shanghai, 5 November 2018 – The Singapore Chamber of Commerce and Industry in China (SingCham) today launched its Shanghai Chapter to champion the commercial and community interests of Singaporeans in Shanghai. Its ninth representative office in China, the launch of the Shanghai chapter is a key step in furthering SingCham’s mission to connect Singaporeans and Singapore businesses operating in China, and facilitate enhanced Sino-Singapore economic cooperation.
The launch ceremony was held at the Consulate-General of the Republic of Singapore in Shanghai, and officiated by Mr Chan Chun Sing, Minister for Trade and Industry. Mr Stanley Loh, Ambassador of the Republic of Singapore to the People's Republic of China, Mr Loh Tuck Wai, Consul-General of the Republic of Singapore in Shanghai, Mr Png Cheong Boon, Chief Executive of Enterprise Singapore, as well as more than 150 Singaporean business leaders and guests, joined in the celebrations.
Ms Dorothy Seet, Chairperson of the Singapore Chamber of Commerce and Industry in China, said the formation of SingCham Shanghai reflects SingCham’s commitment to helping more Singaporean businesses succeed in this market.
“SingCham has come a long way since its founding more than 16 years ago, growing our Chamber service capabilities in both depth and breath. We are excited to be expanding our footprint with the launch of SingCham Shanghai, and play a greater role in intermediating the growing trade and cultural exchanges between Singapore and China,” said Ms Seet.
Mr Melvyn Goh, Chairman of SingCham Shanghai said the fast-paced, international city of Shanghai offers massive opportunities for Singaporean businesses.
“Shanghai is the epicentre of business, innovation and connectivity not just in China, but globally. There are untapped opportunities here for more Singapore-Chinese collaborations especially in the areas of Belt and Road Initiative, people, professional services and urban rejuvenation. We see SingCham Shanghai’s role as helping to facilitate those dialogues and support the growth of Singaporean businesses and communities,” said Mr Goh.
SingCham Shanghai’s goals are:
- To be the information gateway for Singaporeans and Singapore business operating in China;
- To promote strategic collaborations between Singaporean businesses and key Chinese government, enterprises and industry leaders; and
- To provide a platform for business, educational, social and cultural exchanges amongst the Singaporean community in Shanghai.
SingCham Shanghai builds on the 20-year legacy of Singapore-Shanghai Business Association (SSBA), to continue to serve the business and social interests of Singaporeans and Singapore businesses in Shanghai.
