On November 16th, SingCham Shanghai had the honour of hosting a sharing session with Ms. Ciel Liu Bei, a distinguished reporter from Phoenix TV. Renowned as a special correspondent based in Singapore and a skilled documentary filmmaker, Ciel has brought audiences into some of the world’s most sensitive and perilous locations. Her fearless reporting includes stories from prisoner-of-war camps in Ukraine, disaster-stricken Fukushima, and numerous crisis hotspots across Asia. These gripping accounts offer unparalleled insights into global events, making this session an extraordinary opportunity for students to hear firsthand from someone who has lived through journalism’s most intense moments.

11月16日，中国新加坡商会上海分会有幸邀请凤凰卫视知名记者刘备女士前来举办分享会。作为常驻新加坡的特约记者和资深纪录片制作人，刘记者曾带领观众走进世界上一些最为敏感和危险的地方。她无畏的报道涵盖了乌克兰战俘营、遭受灾难的福岛以及亚洲多处危机热点地区的故事。这些引人入胜的报道为全球事件提供了无与伦比的见解，使学生们获得了从经历过新闻业最紧张时刻的人那里亲耳聆听的机会，这是一次非凡的体验。

Sharing Session Highlights 分享亮点

 During the session, Ciel delved into her extensive experiences in global journalism, recounting her time in conflict zones like Ukraine and Israel. She shared how she balances neutrality with compassion, a delicate skill that allows her to connect deeply with the people whose stories she tells. Her interactions with locals profoundly shaped her worldview, instilling a greater appreciation for peace and comfort while reminding students of the resilience and humanity that transcends language, race, and religion.

Ciel also reflected on what it means to be human, emphasizing the empathy and love that unify people across divides. This moving narrative served as a poignant reminder of the importance of kindness and responsibility as students prepare for the working world.

I really enjoyed the sharing by Ciel, especially her real-life experiences being in the conflict zones. Her stories about the people she met—filled with heartwarming and deeply human moments—were incredibly inspiring and a reminder of the resilience and compassion that exist even in the most challenging circumstances.

I also realised that while news offers a window into the world’s realities, there’s more beneath the surface than what meets the eye. To truly understand the world around us, it's essential to look beyond the filtered version of reality shaped by biases. We must critically interpret what we see, question underlying narratives, and verify information through thorough cross-referencing of sources. Only then can we begin to grasp the complexity and nuances of the world we live in.
