Fostering Collaboration: SingCham Shanghai Hosts CEOs Networking Dinner
In a bid to strengthen bilateral ties and promote cross-cultural exchange, SingCham Shanghai recently organized a CEOs Networking Dinner. The event, held on 24th January 2024 at The House of Roosevelt Club Lounge, brought together prominent business leaders from Singapore and China for an evening of meaningful networking, learning, and sharing.
The dinner was graced by the presence of distinguished guests including Guest-of-Honor Mr. Edwin Tong, Singapore Minister for Culture, Community and Youth and Second Minister of Law; Ms. Low Yen Ling, Minister of State for the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth and the Ministry of Trade and Industry; Mr. Chua Teng Hoe, Singapore's Consul-General in Shanghai; Mr. Johnny Teo, Assistant CEO of Enterprise Singapore; Mr. Ho Koi Foong, Regional Director (Northeast Asia) of Singapore Global Network; and Mr. Ong Tze Guan, Chairman of SingCham China.
The event's success was greatly attributed to the unwavering support and sponsorship from the Singapore Ministry of Law and the Singapore Global Network. Additionally, we extend our gratitude to The House of Roosevelt for generously providing the beautiful venue.
The dinner was unveiled by Mr. Henry Cheng, Vice Chairman of SingCham Shanghai, where he hosted the event and warmly welcomed guests.
Next, Mr. Lucas Loh, Chairman of SingCham Shanghai, delivered a welcome speech and extended a warm greeting to the guests. He expressed delight at the opportunity to host Singaporean leaders in Shanghai, and to foster collaboration between Singaporean, Chinese and international enterprises over the networking dinner. He also sent well-wishes for the year ahead, in the hope of ushering a prosperous and successful year of 2024.
Guest-of-Honor Mr. Edwin Tong, Singapore's Minister for Culture, Community and Youth and Second Minister of Law, then delivered his opening address. Other than expressing gratitude at the warm reception, he also provided a comprehensive outlook on the evolving geopolitical and economic landscape, highlighting the importance of Sino-SG partnership amidst uncertainties.
Mr. William Chang, Vice Chairman and Secretary-General of SingCham Shanghai, moderated the fireside chat with Minister Tong following his opening address. William started the session by briefly introducing SingCham’s role in creating opportunities for Singaporeans and Singapore companies to explore and foster business collaboration opportunities in various industry verticals and strengthen community ties through social networking. He then kicked off the dialogue with a question seeking Minister’s advice to Chinese enterprises wishing to set up businesses in Singapore and the industry sectors with growth potential in Singapore. During the fireside chat, Minister Tong touched on several topics regarding Sino-SG collaboration, particularly on Singapore’s offerings as a gateway to the ASEAN market, and the role Singapore companies can play in helping Chinese companies venture overseas.
The audience were enthusiastic in engaging with Minister Tong as they raised several questions on China’s developments, and areas of collaboration between Singapore and China in the culture, digitalisation, sustainability and innovation. Minister shared his views and insights very candidly which were very well received by the audience.
Guests enjoyed a marvellous spread of food and wine prepared by the House of Roosevelt.
We were honored to have our very own Singaporean pianist Mr. Wang Congyu to join and perform at the dinner. Mr. Wang Congyu started playing piano at the age of 3, was named “Steinway Artist“ and ”Singapore’s Most Promising Young Artist of the Year in 2016“, and has performed for many important guests, including the Prince of Brunei and the Prime Minister of Singapore.
We hope you enjoyed the night and formed meaningful connections!
