December 14, 2020
On 14 December 2020, SingCham Shanghai proudly presented ‘Is RCEP a Big Deal’, first of a series business event designed to share with our members to gain insights on the world’s largest trade agreement, RCEP (Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership). Keynote speaker of the event was Dr. Taimur Baig, Chief Economist of DBS Bank.
Held at Ascendas Innovation Place, this event was attended by over 50 members and non-members who were keen to know how signing of the RCEP agreement on 15 Nov 2020 could help Singapore businesses, particular for Singaporeans and Chinese in China. The event also provided an opportunity for attendees to network, exchange ideas and share about their businesses.
Dr. Taimur Baig shared about the significant economic, trade, political , and strategic elements of RCEP agreement, and its outlook on regional businesses and investment. He highlighted that tariff elimination of at least 92% of goods traded among RCEP countries would allow seamless admission of goods among the regions; and in addition, at least 65% of RCEP countries’ services sector will be fully open, with greater transparency of regulations and measures.
Diana Xin, General Manager, Jie Xiong Consulting Company commented, “It was great event to share the overview, analysis and insight of RCEP, starting to explore new business opportunities in the next 3-5 year. Great networking with likeminded entrepreneurs/professionals to get to know each other and prepare for future collaboration.”
JK Tan, China CEO, Nufin Data commented, “Overall it's a good topic subject matter and good start to this series of Business sessions! Dr. Taimur gave a good basic insights into RCEP.”
